"I am a language assistant from the United States currently living in Spain. I found ConversaSpain's program by referral from an acquaintance from high school. She told there are many other companies out there who can help you get to Spain to teach english as a foreign language, but recommended Conversa because of her good experiences. The company is extremely organized, having dissolved the complex visa application process into a step-by-step pdf timeline. As a very organized person myself, I really appreciate this. They provide plenty of information about how to prepare for your move to Spain, what documents you need to obtain once you are there, and everything in between. Despite the clarity of their instructions, hiccups (big and small) can occur in the visa application process. For me, the hiccups felt very big. I decided to mail my visa application in to my assigned consulate, which was a few states away. Exactly a week after my USPS tracker indicated my package had arrived at the consulate, I received an anonymous voicemail from someone with an area code in my consulate's state, saying they had some important documents of mine that they wanted to return. I called them 13 times in one day, with no response. Following ConversaSpain's advice, I was privileged enough to be able to fly to the consulate to check on my application. When I arrived, I was told my application was not there. My tracking didn't indicate my return package was on the move either. In other words, my application had been lost, and with it my official passport, lots of personal information, my $200 application fee, and other documents that take weeks to obtain from the US government. I was devastated. I worried I wouldn't be able to make it to Spain on time to start my job. I quickly reached out to ConversaSpain to inform them of the news. Over the next month, my personal advisor from Conversa worked tirelessly with me to obtain my new documents. I was traveling all over the country to get a new passport, expedite my documents from the federal government, and finally hand in my new application (in person). I emailed with Conversa pretty much everyday during this period. They consistently reached out to check in on me, and constantly reminded various Spanish organizations that I needed new documents asap. They were encouraging, validating, and present. They made me feel like I wasn't fighting to make it to Spain on my own. They were in the struggle with me, feeling all of the frustration and all of the disappointment and, eventually, celebrating all of my victories. With their help and support, I made it to Spain on time and started my teaching job the day after I arrived. Two weeks in, I am now completely caught up on my documents. When I met them during online orientations, they recognized my name. Even now, when I am settled and caught up they reach out occasionally to check in. I couldn't imagine going through this process without them. There is so much to know, so many laws to consider and deadlines to meet.
